Invisalign: A Few Dos And Don'ts To Remember

Wouldn't it be great if everyone was born with straight teeth? Unfortunately, they aren't, which is why many people turn to orthodontic treatment of some type to attain that beautiful smile that they've always dreamed of. However, some individuals don't want to wear metal braces because of the way that they look. Luckily, there is a discreet and just as effective option available: Invisalign. If you have decided to pursue Invisalign treatment, here are a few dos and don'ts to keep in mind for optimal results.

Do Clean Your Aligners

Your dentist will provide you with a special cleaning solution, and this cleaning solution needs to be used to soak your Invisalign aligners in regularly. You also need to gently clean your aligners with a soft-bristled toothbrush. Any time that you are not wearing your aligners, it is important that they are kept safely in your plastic cases so that there is no risk of them becoming scratched, cracked, or otherwise damaged.

Don't Eat With Your Aligners In

Your Invisalign aligners are designed to be worn for the bulk majority of the day—roughly 22 hours out of the day. This means that the only time that you should take them out is to eat so that they remain stain-free and clean. In addition, the aligners should also be taken out when you perform your daily oral hygiene routine—in other words, brushing and flossing.

Do Maintain Your Regular Oral Hygiene Routine

One of the biggest advantages of wearing Invisalign aligners is so that you don't have to struggle with brushing and flossing around the metal brackets of traditional braces. However, this doesn't mean that you can slack on your oral hygiene routine. You must still brush twice a day and floss once a day just as you would if you didn't wear the aligners—just don't forget to take the aligners out first!

Don't Play With the Aligners

As you are getting used to the feeling of the Invisalign aligners, you may be tempted to fiddle with them. It is very important to resist this urge. While it may seem like harmless fun, the aligners cannot do their job if they are not in place. Plus, the aligner trays are susceptible to damage when you are playing with them.
